Keurig K-Elite Leaking Water? 5 Fixes

Where K-Elite Water Usually Comes From

The K-Elite Use & Care Guide has no "leaking" row in its troubleshooting section. Its care and storage pages do say where water collects, and most leaks come from one of these four sources:

• The drip tray "can hold up to 8 ounces of overflow". It needs emptying, and you slide it out level to avoid spilling.
• A reservoir that isn't seated properly in its base.
• A pod holder that isn't snapped in, or a handle that isn't fully lowered.
• Storage: keep the brewer upright "to avoid water leakage from the inner tank".

Work through those, then contact Keurig Customer Service. The guide describes no seal or valve for owners to replace.

Fix 1: Empty the Drip Tray

Symptoms: water at the front or around the base after a few cups.

What the guide says: the drip tray holds up to 8 oz of overflow and should be "emptied and cleaned occasionally". Clean it with a damp, soapy, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth.

How to fix:

1. Slide the tray toward you, keeping it level.
2. Empty it and wipe it clean.
3. Slide it back fully onto the drip tray base.

If you brew into a travel mug with the tray removed, put the tray back before the next normal cup.

Fix 2: Seat the Reservoir Properly

Symptoms: water under or behind the reservoir, or the ADD WATER light staying on.

What the guide says: "Make sure the water reservoir is seated properly in its base." Fill to and not beyond the MAX line.

How to fix:

1. Remove the lid, then lift the reservoir straight up.
2. Check the water is no higher than MAX.
3. Set it straight back down into its base and refit the lid.

Fix 3: Refit the Pod Holder and Close the Handle

Symptoms: water or coffee around the pod holder or dripping down the front.

What the guide says: lower the handle completely to close the lid. Don't remove the foil lid from the pod, and don't lift the handle while brewing, because the pod holder is full of very hot water.

How to fix:

1. Lift the handle. Grasp the top of the pod holder and push up from underneath until it releases.
2. Clean it and the funnel. The funnel pulls off and snaps back.
3. Refit it using the two front ribs as a guide, and snap it in from the top.
4. Use one pod at a time and lower the handle fully.

⚠️ Caution: "There are sharp needles... do not put your fingers in the K-Cup pod holder."

Fix 4: Clear the Needles

Symptoms: a partial cup with water backing up, or grounds in the cup.

How to fix (from the guide):

1. Exit needle: remove the pod holder, detach the funnel and push a straightened paper clip into the exit needle at the bottom.
2. Entrance needle: hold the handle up and push a paper clip into all the holes under the lid.
3. Lower the handle and run two water-only brews.

Fix 5: Descale on Schedule

The guide says to descale every 3-6 months.

1. Turn the brewer off. Add Keurig Descaling Solution plus a bottle of water.
2. Turn it on and run hot water brews at the largest size until ADD WATER lights.
3. Leave it at least 30 minutes, still on.
4. Discard the rest, rinse the reservoir and fill with fresh water to MAX.
5. Run at least 12 rinse brews at the largest size, refilling as needed.

Foam during descaling is normal. It takes about 45 minutes.

Storing or Moving the Brewer

• Store it upright "to avoid water leakage from the inner tank", somewhere frost-free.
• Moving it: turn it off, unplug it and empty the reservoir.
• After storage: rinse the reservoir and run three rinsing brews without a pod.
• After freezing temperatures: let it warm to room temperature for at least 2 hours.
