Vertuo Next vs Vertuo Pop+: Same Wi-Fi in the US, Different Tanks

The Next Is Bigger. In the US, Both Have Wi-Fi.

The real difference between these two is the water tank. Nespresso's manuals give the Vertuo Next a 1.1 L tank and the Vertuo Pop+ a 0.75 L tank. Connectivity is closer than it looks: the Pop+ lists Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and so does the US and Canada edition of the Vertuo Next (GCV1/GDV1). Only Nespresso's combined international manual lists the Next with Bluetooth alone.

If the tank is what you care about, there is a third option most buyers never see: the Pop+ Deluxe carries the same 1.1 L tank as the Next in a body 300 g lighter.

One caution on that last row: Nespresso prints the same Breville code list for both machines. If you are buying a rebadged Breville, the BNV number will not reliably tell you which machine is in the box. Check the Nespresso code — GCV1/GDV1 for the Next, GCV6/GDV6 for the Pop+.

The Connectivity Claim, Corrected Twice

From Sep 21 to Sep 30, 2026, this page said only the Pop+ has Wi-Fi. That came from Nespresso's combined international manual, whose specification table gives the Next a Bluetooth module only (2.402-2.480 GHz, 4 dBm). The US and Canada Vertuo Next manual says otherwise. It has a "Connectivity and software update" page with a procedure to "toggle Bluetooth® / Wi-Fi on / off", and its pairing note tells you to connect the machine to Wi-Fi through the Nespresso app.

• Vertuo Next, US/Canada (GCV1/GDV1): Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
• Vertuo Next, combined international table: Bluetooth only.
• Vertuo Pop+: "Bluetooth 4 dBm Max. e.i.r.p. and Wi-Fi <20 dBm max. e.i.r.p."

So for most US buyers, connectivity is not what separates these two. Check the manual in the box if your Next came from elsewhere.

Both machines also document the same connectivity off switch: with the head closed and the lever unlocked, unplug for at least 10 seconds, then hold the button while plugging it back in. An orange blink means the module is off; repeat for a white blink to turn it back on.

What Is Genuinely Identical

Once you get past tank, weight and radio, these are the same machine:

• Auto off after 2 minutes of non-use; manual off by holding the button 3 seconds.
• Factory reset: plugged in, open then close the head, leave the lever unlocked, press the button 5 times within 3 seconds.
• The blink language: two blinks and a pause for a fault, three blinks then steady for the descaling alert, an orange pulse for cooling after overheating.
• The 20-minute cool-down after extensive use.
• 1500 W in the US and Canada on both.
• The capsule system and the cup sizes — Espresso, Double Espresso, Gran Lungo, Mug and Carafe at 535 ml, programmable from 20 ml to 535 ml.

Neither manual publishes a brew temperature, so any claim that one of these runs hotter than the other is somebody's thermometer, not a specification.

Where the Weight Difference Shows Up

400 g sounds like nothing until you consider what it buys. The Next is 4 kg with a 1.1 L tank. The Pop+ Deluxe is 3.7 kg with the same 1.1 L tank.

That makes the Deluxe the more efficient package on paper: identical capacity and less mass. The Next's weight goes into a larger body rather than a larger reservoir.

Where the Next still wins is availability of rebadged versions — it is the one sold as a KRUPS XN910 and a Magimix M700 as well as under Breville and DeLonghi, so in some markets it is simply the machine on the shelf.

How Both Machines Behave When Something Goes Wrong

Worth reading before you buy, because it is identical on both and it is short.

Which One to Buy

Buy the Vertuo Next if it is the version stocked where you shop, if you want a rebadged KRUPS or Magimix, or if you already own it and are wondering whether the Pop+ is an upgrade — it mostly is not.

Buy the Vertuo Pop+ if 0.75 L covers your household and you want the smaller machine. Its manual also lists an Alto / Cold Brew Style size that the combined Next manual doesn't.

Buy the Pop+ Deluxe if you want the Next's 1.1 L tank without the Next's weight. On the manufacturer's own numbers this is the strongest of the three, and it is the one almost no comparison mentions.

What should not decide it: how the machine alerts you, how it resets, how long it takes to cool down, or how it descales. All identical.

Which has better app support, the Next or the Pop+?

In the US and Canada, neither on paper: the Pop+ manual lists Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and the US Vertuo Next manual documents both too. Only Nespresso's combined international manual lists the Next with Bluetooth alone, so check which manual came with your machine.

Is the Vertuo Next tank really bigger than the Pop+?

Bigger than the standard Pop+, yes: 1.1 L against 0.75 L. But the Pop+ Deluxe also has a 1.1 L tank, so if capacity is your reason for choosing the Next, check the Deluxe first. It's lighter.

Do they take the same capsules?

Yes. Both are Vertuo machines reading the same capsule barcodes, and both cover Espresso, Double Espresso, Gran Lungo, Mug and Carafe. The Pop+ manual additionally lists an Alto / Cold Brew Style size at 355 ml, which does not appear in the combined Next manual's size list — that may be a manual revision rather than a hardware difference, so do not buy on it.

Is one more reliable than the other?

Nothing in the manuals supports that either way. They share the same troubleshooting list, the same fault blink pattern, the same descaling alert behaviour and the same overheating recovery. Reliability is not a sensible basis for choosing between these two.

What is the difference between the Vertuo Pop+ and the VertuoPlus?

They are different machines with confusingly similar names. The VertuoPlus is heavier at 4.6 kg, uses a motorised head, and has no connectivity module listed in its specification table. The Pop+ is a compact machine with a manual lever, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Does the Breville or DeLonghi version behave differently?

The procedures in the manuals are the same. Be careful with model numbers though: Nespresso prints an identical Breville BNV code list for both the Next and the Pop+, so the Breville number will not tell you which machine you have. The Nespresso code will — GCV1/GDV1 for the Next, GCV6/GDV6 for the Pop+.
