Nespresso Lattissima One vs. Lattissima Touch: Which Should You Buy?

The Short Answer

Buy the Lattissima One if you make one milk drink at a time and want the simplest machine. It has one milk button and a small milk container you fill per drink. Buy the Lattissima Touch if you want one-touch recipes: Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, Creamy Latte and Warm milk froth, each with its own button. It also has a 0.35 L milk container and a 0.9 L water tank.

Both brew OriginalLine capsules, both show orange Descaling and Clean alerts, and both descale with a pipe plugged into the steam connector.

The Touch gives you more drinks and more settings: auto-off you can stretch to 8 hours, water hardness, and a fixed "Clean" rinse button. The One gives you fewer buttons to learn.

Lattissima One: Best for One Drink at a Time

The One is built around a single milk button. You fill the milk container for the drink you're making, and the machine prepares it fresh. Its manual is the one OriginalLine manual we've read that names a colour: the DESCALING and CLEAN icons "shine orange" when they're due.

Its menu is small. Hold the milk button 3 seconds and the two alert icons blink (that's the menu, not a fault). The only reset restores drink quantities: press the milk button, then again to confirm, and all the buttons blink 3 times.

Know this: program a coffee over 150 ml and the manual says to let the machine cool 5 minutes before the next one ("Risk of overheating!").

Lattissima Touch: Best for One-Touch Milk Recipes

The Touch has a touch button for each milk recipe. A refrigerated Rapid Cappuccino System (R.C.S.) milk container connects to the steam connector, with a froth regulator knob: Cappuccino at min, Latte Macchiato at max, Creamy Latte at min.

Cleaning is built in. After each milk drink, CLEAN shines orange. Hold CLEAN for the ~16-second rinse, then put the R.C.S. in the fridge. Milk in the container keeps a maximum of 2 days refrigerated. After each use, take the R.C.S. apart (6 parts) and wash it on the top rack of the dishwasher, or soak it 30 minutes.

Its descaling alert has three levels. Steady orange with drinks available is level 1. Blinking orange is level 2 (the last descale wasn't done correctly). Steady orange with drinks unavailable is level 3, blocked by scale. The Lattissima Touch troubleshooting guide covers each level.

Its settings go further than the One's. In Menu mode (milk jug off, Lungo + Warm milk froth for 3 seconds), you can set the water hardness (0-4) and the auto-off time: 9 minutes, 30 minutes or 8 hours.

Reliability: What Each One Asks of You

Neither manual gives failure rates, so we compare what each asks of you and how each signals trouble.

• Both: descale with the Nespresso descaling agent (100 ml plus 500 ml water) through a descaling pipe in the steam connector; empty the drip tray and capsule container first.
• Both: all buttons blinking for 10 seconds, then the machine switches off means "Error alarm, machine needs repair". Irregular blinking means send it for repair.
• Both: buttons flashing alternately means the machine is overheating; wait. After emptying, it stays blocked about 10 minutes.
• Touch only: milk-container hygiene matters more, since milk sits in the R.C.S. for up to 2 days in the fridge.

Do both Lattissimas use the same capsules?

Yes. Both are OriginalLine machines with Espresso and Lungo buttons. Neither takes Vertuo capsules.

Can you reset a Lattissima One or Touch?

Only the drink quantities. Both manuals' resets restore factory volumes through Menu mode; neither is offered as a fix for error lights. All buttons blinking for 10 seconds, then off, means the machine needs repair.
