Nespresso Lattissima Leaking Milk or Water? 5 Fixes

Where Lattissima Leaks Come From

Nespresso's Lattissima One (F111) and Lattissima Touch (EN560) manuals point to three places. Work out first whether it's milk or water on the counter: milk means the milk system, and water means the capsule area or the trays. Neither manual describes a seal for owners to replace.

1. The capsule area. The Touch troubleshooting row: "Capsule area is leaking: position capsule correctly; call if leaks continue."
2. The milk system. It needs rinsing after every milk drink and a full clean after each use. On the Touch it's the Rapid Cappuccino System (R.C.S.), which has to be connected correctly to the steam connector.
3. The drip tray and capsule container. Empty them, especially before descaling. Descaling sends water out through the descaling pipe as well as the outlet.

Fix 1: Position the Capsule Correctly

Symptoms: water in the capsule container or around the capsule area.

What the manual says (Touch): "Capsule area is leaking: position capsule correctly; call if leaks continue." If the lever won't close, empty the capsule container and check that no capsule is stuck.

Fix 2: Rinse the Milk System After Every Milk Drink

Symptoms: milk dripping from the spout, or the Clean alert shining orange.

Lattissima Touch:

1. After a milk drink, CLEAN shines orange.
2. Put a container under the milk spout and press and hold CLEAN until the pumping stops (about 16 seconds).
3. Disconnect the R.C.S., put it back in the fridge, and close the steam connector door.

Lattissima One: when the Clean alert shines orange, take apart the Rapid Cappuccino System and clean all its parts in the upper rack of the dishwasher, or by hand.

Fix 3: Take the Milk System Apart and Clean It

Symptoms: milk leaking around joins, or a sour smell.

What the manual says (Touch): after each use, take the R.C.S. apart (6 parts). Clean them in the upper rack of the dishwasher, or soak them in warm water with mild detergent for at least 30 minutes. Reassemble every part before refitting.

• Milk can stay in the container for up to 2 days, refrigerated.
• If it's been out of the fridge for more than 2 hours, take it apart and clean it.
• Don't turn the froth regulator past its end. That position is for removing it.

Fix 4: Connect the Milk Container Properly (Touch)

Symptoms: milk or steam escaping where the container joins the machine.

How to fix:

1. Slide the steam connector door to the right to open it.
2. Push the R.C.S. fully onto the connector.
3. After use, disconnect it and close the door.

Time: 1 minute

Fix 5: Empty the Trays and Use the Descaling Pipe

Symptoms: water around the machine after descaling.

What the manuals say:

• Before descaling, empty the drip tray and capsule container.
• Plug the descaling pipe into the steam connector. On the Touch, place a 1 L container under both the coffee outlet and the pipe.
• Use 100 ml of Nespresso descaling agent + 500 ml water. It takes about 20 minutes (One) or 25 (Touch).

Why is my Lattissima leaking milk?

Usually the milk system needs rinsing or cleaning, or the container isn't connected properly. The Touch asks for a CLEAN rinse after every milk drink, and a full clean of the R.C.S. after each use.
