Ninja clean light still on after cleaning? The Coffee Bar needs a second Flush stage, and the DualBrew needs START BREW pressed and each mode cleaned.
Ninja Coffee Bar Clean Light Won't Turn Off? 5 Fixes That Work
Why That Clean Light Won't Stop Blinking
A Ninja Coffee Bar clean light that won't turn off usually means the cleaning cycle stopped halfway. The Coffee Bar cleans in two stages. After the one-hour clean stage, it beeps and shows "Flush". The CLEAN light only turns off after you refill with fresh water and press CLEAN again for the Flush stage. If the light comes back later, Ninja says calcium is still present: run the full cycle again.
That's the most common version of this problem. The others are model quirks that Ninja's owner's guides explain. The DualBrew Pro needs START BREW pressed to confirm a clean cycle. It also tracks scale separately for each brew mode. And if a clean cycle is cancelled, the brewer isn't descaled.
Everything below comes from Ninja's owner's guides for the Coffee Bar CF090 series (CF091), the DualBrew Pro CFP300 series, the DualBrew CFP200 series and the 12-Cup Programmable Brewer CE251. There's no hidden button combination that resets the light in any of them.
How the Clean Light Works on Your Model
| Model | What the light means | What clears it |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee Bar (CF090 series, e.g. CF091) | CLEAN lights when the brewer senses calcium buildup, then flashes with an urgent "Clean" message if ignored | Clean stage (1 hour) plus Flush stage (about 8 minutes) |
| DualBrew Pro (CFP300) / DualBrew (CFP200) | Intelligent Clean Cycle Indicator turns orange; "CLn" means clean immediately on the current mode | A full clean cycle (about 75 minutes) on the mode that needs it |
| 12-Cup Programmable (CE251) | No automatic reminder. CLEAN is a function you run whenever you like | Not applicable: Ninja suggests cleaning when a full carafe takes longer than 12-15 minutes |
| Luxe Café | Separate system. See our Luxe Café clean light guide |
Try This First
- Does the clock say "Flush"? Then the clean stage is done and the brewer is waiting for you (Fix 1).
- Is the carafe empty and in place? Ninja warns that starting a cycle with liquid in the carafe causes an overflow.
- DualBrew: did you press START BREW after CLEAN? CLEAN alone only selects the cycle.
- CE251: is SMALL BATCH lit? Ninja says it must be off before descaling.
- Did you use vinegar or descaler? A water-only cycle doesn't descale the brewer.
Fix 1: Finish the Flush Stage (Works About 40% of the Time)
On the Ninja Coffee Bar, the clean stage ends with a beep and a "Flush" message, not with the light going out. Many owners empty the carafe, see the light still on and assume the machine is faulty. The brewer is actually waiting for the second stage. Ninja's guide says the CLEAN light turns off "upon completion of the Flush stage."
Signs it's this one: "Flush" on the clock display, or you only ran the vinegar stage.
Ninja Coffee Bar (CF090 series):
- Empty the carafe, and clean the carafe and water reservoir thoroughly to remove the cleaning solution.
- Fill the reservoir with fresh water up to, but not past, the Carafe line (43 oz. Max Fill).
- Put the empty carafe back under the brew basket.
- Press CLEAN to start the Flush stage. It takes about 8 minutes.
- When it finishes, the CLEAN light turns off. Pour the water away.
Time: About 10 minutes

Success Rate: About 40%
Difficulty: Easy
DualBrew and CE251 owners: your brewers don't have a separate Flush stage. After the clean cycle, refill with fresh water and run a water-only brew: a Full Carafe Classic brew for Grounds mode, a 12 oz. Classic brew for Pods mode, or a full Classic brew on the CE251. This rinses out the solution, but on the DualBrew the indicator clears when the clean cycle itself finishes (Fix 4).
Fix 2: Run the Clean Stage the Way Ninja Specifies (Works About 25% of the Time)
A clean cycle that was set up wrong, cancelled or interrupted doesn't count. The Coffee Bar's clean stage takes about an hour. Most of that time is a pause while the clock counts down, and it's easy to mistake for a stall. Unplugging it or taking the carafe away can spoil the cycle. On the DualBrew and CE251, pressing CLEAN again cancels it.
Signs it's this one: the brewer seemed to stop for a long time, or you pressed a button or removed the carafe partway through.
Ninja Coffee Bar (CF090 series):
- Select the Carafe size and set the empty carafe under the brew basket.
- Fill the reservoir:
- Descaler: follow the package directions, up to but not past the Max Fill line (43 oz.), or
- Vinegar: white vinegar to the Travel Mug line (16 oz.), then water up to the Max Fill line. Ninja says to use only white vinegar.
- Press CLEAN.
- The brewer delivers a small amount of solution, then pauses for one hour while the clock counts down. Don't remove the carafe. More solution is delivered during this time.
- After the hour, it discharges the rest of the solution, beeps and shows "Flush". Now do Fix 1.
DualBrew Pro (CFP300) / DualBrew (CFP200):
- Put the empty carafe under the brew basket.
- Fill with descaler per the package, or white vinegar to the Travel Mug line (16 oz.) plus water up to the Full line.
- Press CLEAN, then START BREW to confirm.
- The clock counts down about 75 minutes. The brewer delivers solution, pauses, and repeats. Ninja says not to remove the carafe at any time during the cycle.
- When it's finished, it beeps, the clock shows End, and the indicator turns off.
CE251: with SMALL BATCH off, add 16 oz. white vinegar and water up to the 12-Cup line (60 fl. oz.), then press CLEAN. The cycle takes about 25-35 minutes and ends with a beep.
Time: 35-80 minutes, depending on model
Cost: Free with white vinegar
Success Rate: About 25%
Difficulty: Easy
Don't cancel it. On the DualBrew, pressing Power or CLEAN stops the cycle, and Ninja's guide warns: "If you cancel the clean cycle, your brewer will not be properly descaled."
Fix 3: Run a Second Full Cycle When the Light Comes Back (Works About 15% of the Time)
Ninja says the Coffee Bar lights CLEAN when it senses calcium buildup. If you finished a complete cycle and the light returns soon after, the brewer is still detecting scale. The Coffee Bar guide says that if CLEAN lights again, "calcium buildup is still present. Repeat the steps above and the CLEAN light will automatically shut off when your brewer is clean." The DualBrew troubleshooting table adds that a second cycle is common in hard-water areas.
Signs it's this one: you did both stages properly, but CLEAN came back within days, or you live in a hard-water area.
- Run the full cycle again: Fix 2, then Fix 1 on a Coffee Bar.
- Use fresh solution each time: new white vinegar, or new descaler per its package.
- Don't run a water-only clean cycle to clear the light. Ninja's DualBrew guide says a water-only clean cycle "will not descale the brewer properly."
- Clean the brew basket and permanent filter with warm, soapy water. On the Coffee Bar, Ninja also says a Clean Cycle or a basket wash helps if the Drip Stop keeps dripping.
Time: About 70 minutes per cycle on a Coffee Bar, 75 on a DualBrew
Cost: Free with white vinegar
Success Rate: About 15%
Difficulty: Easy
If the flashing light comes with an urgent "Clean" message on a Coffee Bar, that just means the reminder was ignored for a while. The fix is the same full cycle.
Fix 4: DualBrew: Clean the Mode That Needs It (Works About 15% of the Time)
The DualBrew tracks scale separately for each way of brewing: Grounds, Pods and, on some models, Hot Water. So a clean cycle run on one mode doesn't clear the need on another. Ninja's guide says to run the first clean cycle on the mode you use most. When the indicator lights orange again, run the next one on the remaining mode.
Signs it's this one: a DualBrew whose orange indicator came back soon after cleaning, or a "CLn" message that appears when you brew with a mode you didn't clean.
- Grounds mode: run the clean cycle with the Sliding Lid closed.
- Pods mode: install the Ninja Pod Adapter, and run the clean cycle through it.
- Hot Water mode (if your model has it and you use it): run an additional clean cycle on Hot Water mode.
- "CLn" on the display means the brewer detected heavy scale and needs a clean cycle on the current mode right away. Ninja says that if the indicator is ignored, the brewer may stop mid-brew and show CLn.
- After each cycle, refill with fresh water and run the matching water-only brew: a Full Carafe Classic for Grounds, a 12 oz. Classic for Pods, or a Full Carafe on BOIL for Hot Water.
Time: About 75 minutes per mode
Cost: Free with white vinegar
Success Rate: About 15%
Difficulty: Easy
Fix 5: Contact Ninja if a Clean Brewer Still Shows the Light (Works About 5% of the Time)
If you've run complete cycles, done correctly on each mode, and the light still won't clear, the brewer may have a fault. The DualBrew guide says an "Er" message with a number (for example "Er 03") means contact Customer Service. Ninja's guides also say to contact SharkNinja if the product isn't working properly, rather than repairing it yourself.
- Note your model number and purchase date.
- Call Ninja Customer Service at 1-877-646-5288.
- Explain which cycles you ran, on which modes, and what the display shows.
- Ninja's DualBrew guides list a one-year limited warranty for the original owner, when bought from an authorized retailer. Check your own guide for your model's terms.

Can you keep brewing meanwhile? Ninja describes the Coffee Bar's CLEAN light as a warning about buildup that can affect flavor. On the DualBrew, Ninja warns that ignoring the indicator can make the brewer stop mid-brew and show CLn.
Prevent the Clean Light From Getting Stuck
- Always finish both stages on a Coffee Bar: the clean stage and the Flush stage
- Confirm with START BREW on a DualBrew, and leave the carafe in place for the whole cycle
- Use white vinegar or descaler, never plain water, for a clean cycle
- Clean each DualBrew mode as the indicator asks
- Keep the carafe empty before any brew or clean cycle, to avoid overflow
- Clean the system weekly, as the safety instructions for the Coffee Bar and CE251 say, and run a clean cycle whenever the light comes on

FAQ
How do I reset the clean light on my Ninja coffee maker?
You don't reset it with buttons. Ninja's guides don't list any reset combination. On the Coffee Bar, the CLEAN light turns off after the Flush stage that follows a complete clean stage. On the DualBrew, the indicator turns off when the clean cycle finishes and the clock shows End. If it comes back, the brewer is still detecting calcium, so run another full cycle.
Why does my Ninja keep saying clean after I cleaned it?
Either the cycle wasn't completed, or scale is still there. On a Coffee Bar, the usual cause is skipping the Flush stage. On a DualBrew, it's often a different brew mode asking to be cleaned, or a cycle that was cancelled. Ninja also says a second cycle is common in hard-water areas.
Why isn't the CLEAN button working on my Ninja?
On the DualBrew Pro and DualBrew, CLEAN only selects the cycle. You then have to press START BREW to confirm.
On the Coffee Bar, the brewer has to be on. Ninja's first-use steps say to press the Power Save button, then CLEAN. On the CE251, make sure SMALL BATCH isn't selected. And if a clean cycle is already running, pressing CLEAN again cancels it.
How much vinegar do I use in a Ninja?
For the Coffee Bar and DualBrew, fill white vinegar to the Travel Mug line (16 oz.), then top up with water to the Max Fill (Coffee Bar) or Full (DualBrew) line. On the CE251, use 16 oz. of white vinegar with water up to the 12-Cup line. Ninja says to use only white vinegar.
How long does a Ninja clean cycle take?
About 1 hour plus an 8-minute Flush stage on the Coffee Bar. About 75 minutes on the DualBrew Pro and DualBrew. About 25-35 minutes on the CE251. Long pauses are normal, because the solution needs time to work on the scale.
