Why Is My Magnifica Duo Coffee Not Hot?

The Magnifica Duo (ECAM330.80) book gives four causes for "coffee not hot", and all four are things you can fix at home in a few minutes. It doesn't describe a heater fault for owners to test, so work through these before calling De'Longhi:

1. The internal circuits have cooled because 2-3 minutes have passed since the last coffee. Run a rinse first.
2. The coffee temperature setting is too low.
3. The cups are cold.
4. The machine needs descaling. After descaling, check the water hardness setting.

Also make sure you didn't pick a cold drink. The Duo makes iced drinks and Cold Brew, and these are meant to come out cold.

Fix 1: Run a Rinse Before the First Coffee

Why: after 2-3 minutes without a coffee, the internal circuits cool down.

How to fix:

1. Open Settings → Maintenance → Rinsing.
2. Place a container (at least 0.2 L) under the spouts.
3. Run the rinse, then make your coffee.

If the Duo has been unused for 3-4 days, run 2-3 rinses first.

Fix 2: Raise the Coffee Temperature

How to fix:

1. Open Settings → Preferences → Coffee temperature.
2. Choose a higher setting and confirm.

Fix 4: Descale, Then Check Water Hardness

Why: the book lists "needs descaling" as a cause of coffee that isn't hot. The Settings → Maintenance → Descaling screen shows a counter bar for when the next descale is due.

How to descale (§17):

1. Use De'Longhi descaler only. Remove the water softener filter.
2. Place a container of at least 2 L under both spouts.
3. Follow the screen. "After several minutes, the descaling action ceases."
4. Rinse 1 with the tank filled to MAX. Refit the softener filter, then run rinse 2.
5. Empty the drip tray and grounds container. Water in the grounds container during descaling "is quite normal".

A power cut means the whole procedure has to be repeated.

After descaling: check Settings → Maintenance → Water hardness, so the descale reminder matches your water.

Milk Drinks Not Hot

• Use the LatteCrema Hot carafe (black lid) for hot milk drinks. The Duo shows "Wrong milk carafe! Switch to LatteCrema Hot/Cool or change your drink choice" if they don't match.
• Use milk straight from the fridge, at about 5 °C (45 °F).
• Clean the carafe after each use with the Clean function.
